Here's a selection of character designs I recently did as part of the development of a short film project. More to come!

Baby Love
I've been longing to make some mean pieces for the blog, so here's one.
I was definitely inspired by Ronald Searle for the characters... Hope you'll find it funny!

The Book Show
Here's my contribution to the "Book Show" exhibition in Paris.
Each artist was asked to come up with a piece that illustrated their favorite book, be it a novel, a comic book or a children's book. I chose to pay tribute to Miroslav Sasek's book collection of cities around the world, as they are definitely my favorite books on my shelf.
It is a gouache painting (38 x 9 cm) and you can see it in person at the Galerie Maghen from July 3 to July 28, 2012. Below are the digital drafts I worked on before making the actual painting.
I'm really excited to bring this blog back to life, as it has been quite a while since my last post. During that time, I've been working on a really cool show for Disney XD as a lead background designer, and other stuff that I will eventually be able to show here... Not just yet!

Venezia
I just got back from an AMAZING trip to Italy... I was inspired to create a new piece based on my own reference pictures. I started with the idea of wildly exaggerating proportions of the Venetian architecture...
... then I looked for moods and different times of the day...
... then I did a quick tonal study to make sure the layout and the lighting worked together, and I started painting from there.

1930s traveler

This is another personal project... I'm trying to adapt to different styles, and to learn new stuff.I will get back to my usual style eventually, but for now this is what you get!
I did enjoy collecting lots of reference, looking at vintage clothes and old Hollywood stars photographs. Up until now, I was always more focused on creating cool shapes, but it's also quite interesting to create a whole person's life from scratch.

"Secret plans and clever tricks"
Another Roald Dahl Story that inspired me...
"The enormous crocodile" wants to have children for breakfast!
He has several tricks up his sleeves, including dressing up like a coconut tree to lure them.
Ok, it's a bit weird when you put it like this, but trust me, you should read it!
Here are some different styles attempts for the same image.
The enormous crocodile tells his pal he has "secret plans and clever tricks!"
Here's the coconut sequence (final image and thumbnails):
